While all of our pottery will have our signature iron spots (aka speckles) and our exposed clay body at the rim, some pieces may differ from one to the next based on our low-reduction firing process. Any differences in glaze applications, color and surfaces are there to embrace.

No. The Mug, Small Mug, and Big Mug are designed to sit side by side rather than stack on top of one another.

With regular washing, coffee and tea should not leave lasting stains on The Mug’s glazed interior. Wash your mug after use to keep the surface clean and prevent buildup.

Yes! The Mug was designed with an AeroPress in mind, and some customers prefer the Big Mug for its wider opening and extra room.

We spent more than a decade refining The Mug’s design, from its comfortable handle to its grounding weight and feel. Made in Asheville, North Carolina, it brings together durable stoneware, our signature iron speckles, and colors you’ll want to live with every day. It’s dishwasher and microwave-safe, too.

East Fork will happily exchange merchandise, issue a store credit, or process a refund to the original form of payment within 30 days of merchandise being received if you are unsatisfied with your order. You can read our full return policy here.

If you’re unsure where to begin, we like to recommend starting with our Bitty Bowl or Tiny Cup to get a good feel of how our pottery fits in your home and what the colors look like in person.

Just as things change with the seasons, our pottery has natural variations. Our reduction-firing process gives each piece its own mix of color, surface texture, and signature iron speckles—some pots have more, others fewer. Along with the exposed clay rim, these variations are part of what makes each piece distinctly East Fork.

We make our pottery with a blend of stoneware clays and minerals that we develop in-house and iterate on nonstop. We source our materials from the American Southeast which helps minimize our carbon footprint and keeps our products rooted in the land we call our home.

East Fork’s clay is rich in iron, as it has been since the beginning, and through a process of limiting the oxygen in the kiln during part of the firing, iron molecules are drawn to the surface of the clay, resulting in our signature iron spots, also lovingly referred to as speckling.

All East Fork pottery is made at our factory in Asheville, North Carolina, using a blend of stoneware clays and minerals sourced from the American Southeast. Our team combines skilled handwork with specialized pottery equipment to shape, finish, and glaze each piece. We then fire our pottery in gas kilns using a reduction process that brings out signature iron speckles and natural glaze variations.

Yes. East Fork pottery is dishwasher-safe and microwave-safe. Our pottery is designed to fit in most standard home dishwashers and is durable enough for commercial dishwashers, too. The only exception is pottery that is made with decaled patterns, like the pots in the The Matisse Collection, which we recommend washing by hand. You can read more about how to care for our pottery here.
